The competition continues, indefinitely, for search ranking. That means that SEO is going to remain a relevant term and one that should have significant important in your company. Although the Google, Yahoo, Bing, and other search engine algorithms have changed over time, there are still elements that have remained important parts of those calculations from the very early days. One of those is the backlink.
The search engines consider backlinks as proof of a webpage’s worth. Therefore, the more genuine backlinks leading back to that page, the better the ranking with the search engines. The question, then, of course, is how do you build up backlinks for your website. There are a number of ways that companies have done this, but these are the four most common approaches:
- Include links in social media profiles
- Share website-based content
- Run contests and other such campaigns
- Seek out potential forums for backlinking purposes
Social Media Backlinking If you have not yet included a link to your website in your social media profiles, do so now. It has been proven to be a very effective way to lead more traffic to your website. Don’t just do so yourself, though. Encourage employees to include links to the company website in their social profiles as well, as long as you can trust that they will represent the company well online.
Content Sharing There are so many people who still dispute the value of a company blog. This point should not be argued. Blogs and other regularly-updated sources of content on a website hold great value. They are a gateway to the rest of the website. Share the content, get people to click through to read more, and chances are good that they will click again to find out more about your company.
Contests and Campaigns These can be very effective ways to get others to share links to your website, but they are not always successful. You must offer up something of value if you want others to spread the word. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a prize. It could be that the campaign gives them a reason to feel a particular emotion. People will often share something simply because the story, photo, or video made them feel happy, sad, hopeful, scared, or because it humored them. Evoke emotion and people are more apt to give you the backlinks you desire.
Scope out Other Opportunities The best way to find new places to create backlinks is by checking out the backlinks of your competitors. Figure out where theirs are coming from and use that information to secure your own backlinks on those platforms. This is often a good way to find people willing to allow you to guest post on their blog, to find industry-related customer-opinion websites, directory services, and other such opportunities.
